I write about managing a creative life in the margins, and you’ll find posts dedicated to journaling, goal-setting, and my writing practice.

I’m the stay-at-home parent to three young kids with various diagnoses, and I am disabled myself. It’s a busy and often challenging season of life, and my creative practices are a critical part of my self-care. Maybe you can relate?

If you’re ready to dig in, start here to get a feel for my content. (Or, keep reading for a longer introduction!)

A bit more about me

I started keeping a diary at the age of 7 and have been writing about my life ever since. My parents’ divorce, coupled with my dad’s substance abuse issues and related incarcerations, made for a traumatic childhood; my notebooks held all of it (and have proven to be an excellent source of material for my memoir-in-progress). As a kid I felt like the odd duck for keeping a journal, and my inner child is SO THRILLED to now have a community of people to talk about journaling with.

I grew up in a tiny town in Upstate New York on a steady diet of The Baby-sitters’ Club, Judy Blume, and Francesca Lia Block. My internet hang outs in the early aughts were livejournal and a very niche forum (laundromatic.net; rip). I moved back to Texas to attend college near the prettiest spring-fed river you’ve ever seen, where I studied journalism and spent a lot of time printing photos in the dark room. After that, I earned a master’s degree in library and information science and spent about 5 years working in a public library in the Austin area.

These days I live in Austin, Texas with my husband, three kids, and assorted pets. I am the primary caregiver for our children, who have a variety of diagnoses. I try super hard to keep their business off the internet because it just doesn’t belong here, but it does feel important to mention that I am well acquainted with what it means to parent children with special needs. It’s a huge part of my life, and greatly informs what I can realistically manage to get done each week. Plus, my kids’ diagnoses unlocked my own (at the age of 37!). If you can relate, know that I see you. It’s hard.

My current set-up in a standard TN size because of the portability, but I also love A5. My most frequently used supplies are vintage photos, stickers, and my Kaweco fountain pens.

I love knitting, vintage quilts, zines, John Mayer, romance novels, eating dark chocolate in bed, and a good mix tape.

Welcome, I’m glad you’re here.
